About

This is a project that provides some useful services for free.

I started it on January 13, 2023, to learn something new and to improve my GNU/Linux skills.

We currently have two servers, both of which are hosted at datalix.eu in Germany:

Ryzen GEN 2 New (since June 19, 2024)

Component Specification
Operating System Debian GNU/Linux
RAM 6 GB DDR4
CPU AMD Ryzen 9 5900X (2 cores)
Storage RAID1 NVMe (50 GB)

Newcomer (since 13.08.2024)

Component Specification
Operating System Debian GNU/Linux
RAM 12 GB DDR3-ECC
CPU Intel Xeon Processor E5-2680 v2 (4 vcores)
Storage Raid1 NVMe Storage (100 GB)

History

At the beginning of my journey, I used 1984.hosting; I bought the cheapest VPS (which cost $5 at that time), with 1GB of RAM, 25GB of disk space, 1 CPU, and 1TB of traffic on January 12th, 2022. It was a pleasant experience, although the server expirienced some downtime. The support was good and fast. I changed the provider because I wanted something better terms of specs, and closer to my physical location, so I chose kyun.host which I found on kycnot.me.

I had a mixed experience withKyun. At first, it wasn't bad; the VPS experienced downtimes, which was acceptable. However, there was one instance where the network became unusable, and I had to wait for a migration, which ultimately helped. Unfortunately, my experience with Kyun.host was eventually marred by constant DDOS attacks on the servers, which made it impossible for me to use my server for extended periods of time. 30.11.23 13.08.24. In search of a better solution, I discovered Datalix.eu through monerica.com, and so far, it seems like a good choice.

I used Incognet for the bloatcat.tk domain that I bought on January 14th, 2022, as it was cheap, and if I was interested in continuing, I could easily buy a new domain without wasting much money. It took more than 24 hours to set up the domain, but I simply contacted their support and everything went smoothly. I chose bloat.cat because it consist of two words: 'bloat' and 'cat'. I love cats. As for bloat, I don't particularly enjoy it :D. However, I thought it was funny and somewhat unique. To be honest, I've never had a compelling idea for something like this.

I pay for all my servers using Monero — a "private, decentralized cryptocurrency that keeps your finances confidential and secure".

Other projects

I am also an administrator of poridge.club and its Fediverse node. It's a semi-free-speech instance with open registration and a Tor adress. You can learn more about it here.

Currently, I'm working on an Ansible playbook to deploy websites like bloat.cat with services with just one or two commands and a playbook. This will automatically install Xray with VLESS + XTLS to bypass censorship.
