Syncplay

Syncplay is the best free and open source software to watch videos together.

It can sync local videos or any videos that are supported by yt-dlp (it must be installed to be used)

This allows us to watch youtube videos together, watch animes together or share the file previously to watch it together

Here you can find a quick start guide to use it with our bloat.cat server that supports TLS

Installation

You can find installation instructions here. Syncplay should also be available in most repositories

You also need to install yt-dlp to watch videos from various websites.

TLS

If you want to utilize TLS encryption so your video names, timestaps and other information is encrypted from server to server, follow this guide

Set the server adress to bloat.cat:8999

Set the room name to anything you like.

Set your preffered username.

The player should be detected automatically, I recomend using MPV for a great and stable expirience but other video players are supported too(see Compatible media players).
